Genesys Hosts Japanese Trade Mission on e-Learning

PeopleComeFirst, the Company's New Learning and Competency Management System, Highlighted at the E-Learning Conference in Washington, D.C.

METHUEN, Mass. — May 31, 2002 — Genesys, a provider of software and outsourcing services for learning management, human resource (HR) management, payroll, and benefits, recently hosted a delegation of eight senior executives and technology engineers from Japan who visited the United States to learn how e-learning was being used in U.S. corporations, government agencies, and universities. PeopleComeFirst, a learning and competency management system developed by Genesys, was among the technology products the delegates saw in action at the e-Learning Conference in Washington, D.C., held April 10-12.

We planned this trip because the United States is the recognized leader in this field," said Hidekuni Komatsu, senior researcher and advisor for NTT Learning Systems and the trip's leader. "Japanese businesses can learn much from what U.S. companies are doing now.

E-learning, defined broadly as using the Internet for the delivery and tracking of learning materials, is being widely adopted by U.S. corporations and government agencies because of benefits such as decreased costs, greater accessibility by employees, and efficient administration. IDC, a Boston-based research firm covering e-learning, estimates that the worldwide e-learning market will grow to approximately $23.1B by 2004.

PeopleComeFirst, recently adopted by Lands' End and Hillsborough County, is a web-based system that will track and manage all types of learning available within a company — e-learning courses, as well as classroom training, library resources, seminars, and other events — and will tie specific training to competencies identified for different jobs.

Industry analysts have confirmed that PeopleComeFirst brings new functionality and benefits to those organizations involved in e-learning," said Lisa Rowan, director of marketing for Genesys. "We were happy to show delegate members the potential of this e-learning technology and discuss the value it brings to our U.S. customers.

Members of the Japanese delegation included: Hidekuni Komatsu, senior researcher and advisor, NTT Learning Systems; Shintaro Maeda, senior system analyst, NRI Learning Network; Takashi Muneshige, chief officer, Kawaijuku Educational Institute; Tatsuhiko Tsuzuki, senior executive, Hokurin Co.; Masato Sumizaki, chief engineer, Hitachi Electronic Services; Ryozo Sato, senior engineer, Toshiba Engineering; Eikichi Tagawa, president, Tokyo Kaisei Co.; and Kiyomi Hutchings, interpreter.
