Genesys Human Capital Management Trends Survey Reveals What Will Shape Strategies for 2008

Companies Show Commitment to Outsource HR and Payroll Services

Orlando, FL, IHRIM's HRMStrategies Conference and Exposition, Booth 239, June 2, 2008 -- Genesys, a provider of Human Resource services and application software including Payroll (US and Canadian), HR and an array of Employee Benefit solutions and tax filing services to the mid-to-large market, today announced the results of its forth consecutive Human Capital Management (HCM) Trends Survey.

According to respondents of the survey sponsored by Genesys, the top HCM priorities for 2008 include:

  • Talent acquisition, retention, and leadership development - 35%
  • Aligning people and business goals - 24%
  • Performance management - 18%
  • Health and benefit cost containment - 18%

Rounding out the top HCM priorities for the coming year was streamlining processes, according to 16% of respondents. Moreover, 48% of respondents indicated that budget expectations over the next 12 months for HR technology and outsourced solutions would increase, thereby enabling funding of the services and tools required to support these top priorities.

Of the many solutions in the human capital arena, respondents identified outsourcing the following functions as among the most popular:

  • Payroll processing - 50%
  • Employee assistance programs - 46%
  • Background screening - 44%
  • Benefits administration - 44%
  • Payroll tax filing - 35%

Additionally, 84% of respondents indicated that they plan to continue outsourcing these popular functions.

The benefits realized by outsourcing HR applications vary greatly from organization to organization. According to respondents of this year's survey, the following benefits of outsourcing were considered most appealing:

  • Freeing-up internal staff - 18%
  • Streamlining operations - 17%
  • Access to the newest technologies - 14%

When asked about selecting a vendor that provides outsourcing services and/or hosts HR-related applications, 28% of respondents indicated that price was their driving factor in selection, followed closely by the vendor's breadth and depth of product line according to 23% of respondents. These finds have remained consistent for the past three years, with price being the number one driver in vendor selection and breadth/depth of product line following closely in second place.
