| First Issue of e-Insight
Welcome to the first issue of e-Insight, the Genesys quarterly solutions newsletter!
Genesys is proud to provide its customer-focused newsletter in a dynamic new HTML format. We're certain that you receive other electronic publications - whether specific to your industry or related to HR/Payroll issues - and we hope that you embrace this new version of e-Insight as well.
Some providers of e-publications deliver their material as straight text, others deliver a web link that you must click to view their publication, while still others deliver their e-publication as a PDF, which once again, you must click to open and view. The new e-Insight incorporates the best features that each of these formats provides, resulting in what you see before you - a content-rich, navigable newsletter that includes hot-links to related information. Future issues will include photos, PDFs, etc., as the need arises.
Highlights of this new format include:
- Desktop delivery. By eliminating the printing, labeling, and mailing
phases of the newsletter production cycle, we're able to deliver
e-Insight to your desktop via
e-mail, approximately 2-3 weeks sooner than you would receive the
traditional hardcopy version.
- Timely content. As mentioned above, by reducing the delivery time by 2-3 weeks, each newsletter's content is fresher and more current. For example, this particular issue includes several changes to the Genesys Training Schedule. Had this newsletter been a print version, we wouldn't have had the opportunity to make these last minute changes.
- Access to the Genesys web site. Whenever appropriate, newsletter articles include hot-links to specific Genesys web pages to provide more detail on the related topic. For example, within the article Conference 2001, you'll find a hot-link directly to the on-line Conference Registration Form.
- Easy to share information. Since the newsletter is now an e-mail, versus a hardcopy, you can easily share the newsletter with colleagues and business associates. Simply forward a copy to others in your organization.
- Reference material. As an e-mail, you can archive this newsletter into an e-mail folder, such as an e-Insight folder, for future reference.
- Environmentally friendly. In the past, approximately 4000 copies of the printed newsletter were distributed each quarter. Multiply that by the average six-page issue and you'll quickly appreciate the significant paper savings that this new HTML e-publication provides.
As a quarterly newsletter, you can expect to receive new issues every three months. Look for the Q2 issue in late May, the Q3 issue in late August and the Q4 issue in late November. Occasionally, you may receive unscheduled, Special Bulletin issues of e-Insight announcing late-breaking news, product announcements, training and event schedule updates, etc. Your e-Insight: in-depth, in-tune, and in-sync with your HR/Payroll concerns. Enjoy this inaugural issue!

Announcing New Website
In addition to this inaugural issue of e-Insight, Genesys has launched a number of new e-business initiatives, including changes to our promotional appearance. On February 1, 2001, we were pleased to announce the launch of an all-new design to the Genesys public web site at www.genesysHCM.com.
In keeping with our philosophy of offering high-quality web-based solutions to our prospects and clients, Genesys believes that it is also important for us to apply this same technology standard to our promotional materials - the most important being our public web presence.
Visitors to our newly redesigned site are treated to a distinctive new appearance and enhanced content as well as improved navigability. The new home page provides direct access to the latest Genesys news, as well as links to other HR-related sites. In addition, visitors can link directly to customer profiles that show how companies in selected vertical markets use Genesys products and services to their business advantage.
Other Genesys web-site features include:
- Partners' pages that provide customers and prospects with information about Genesys alliances
- Search capability for ease in locating desired information
- Simplified presentation of product and services information
In addition to the new features available to all visitors, Genesys has crafted a new look for its customers-only pages and has introduced a secure area where corporate partners may exchange sales information and leads with Genesys.
Genesys customers will connect to the customer-specific section of the web site by choosing "customer connection" from the menu selections on the left-hand side of the home page.
We hope you like our new design and find the site user-friendly and informative.

Year-End Program a Success
The Genesys Year-End Services (YES) program just completed another successful year. This means that hundreds of companies took advantage of the time and cost savings provided by having Genesys produce their W-2s, 1099s, and similar year-end reporting documents.
Customers rely on the YES program to handle the time- and resource-consuming annual tasks of processing and laser-printing W-2s and 1099s. Genesys guarantees the punctual delivery of year-end payroll forms to employees and retirees. The YES program includes:
- Affordable, on-time production and shipment of W-2 and 1099 forms
- Employee forms laser-printed crisply and clearly on self-mailers
- Mailing of printed forms directly to employees and retirees, or return of forms for distribution by the customer
Delta Dental of California and Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) of San Francisco, based in Oakland, California, were among the many satisfied customers who utilized the YES program in Q4 2000. "Once I send in the tape, I don't have to worry about it anymore," said Tom Tripp, payroll manager for Delta Dental, a Genesys customer. "Genesys turns the forms around very quickly-including processing, printing, and shipping. It's up to us whether we deliver the W-2s ourselves or have Genesys mail them directly to employees."
According to Mark Sheppie, manager of payroll for BART, "Using the YES program from Genesys means our own employees can attend to other aspects of their jobs rather than working 'round the clock to get out the W-2s and related reports. It's an efficient way of handling year-end processing."
Genesys offers a range of optional extras to the YES program, including:
- Hard copies and/or files on tape for taxing authorities (federal IRS/SSA, state, and/or local)
- IRS W-2c (corrected W-2) forms
- CD-ROM output for easy storage and retrieval
- Special mail-handling to ensure prompt delivery
For more
information on the YES program, visit the Year-End Services
web page. Inquiries may be addressed by e-mail to solutions@genesysHCM.com
or by contacting your Genesys sales manager.

Conference 2001 Set for San Antonio
The 21st Annual HRMS Conference will take place September 16 through 19 - at the beautiful Westin Riverwalk Hotel in San Antonio, Texas. Shaded by cypress and palm trees, San Antonio's Paseo del Rio - a pedestrian "river walk" of hidden gardens, shops and sidewalk cafes one story below downtown - celebrates the beauty and heritage of Texas' oldest city. Along this famous thoroughfare, the new Westin Riverwalk is close to the Alamo, La Villita, and Market Square.
The Genesys team has been busy planning for the conference and will be distributing a preliminary agenda in May. We'd like you to be a part of that agenda. If you have a success story to share, a new way of doing things or a willingness to speak on an HR-related topic - we want to hear from you. Simply send an e-mail to Lucille Breen (lbreen@genesysHCM.com) with your topic and contact information. Remember that presenters receive a complimentary conference registration.
Attendees for the 2000 conference overwhelmingly ranked it overall as very good to excellent (92%). Be among our 2001 attendees and enjoy:
- One-on-one meetings with Genesys management
- Industry-related sessions covering a broad variety of topics including the ROI of self-service
- More live debates - very popular in 2000
- Multiple sessions on Version 6.1
- A chance to exchange ideas and experiences with other Genesys customers
Register for conference on-line or call Cindy Francoeur at (978) 685-5400 x3003.

Press Corner
- Industry-specific solutions are popular, which is why the appointment of A. Joseph Laforet to the post of director for healthcare systems has earned the Genesys HealthCare HRMS System notable mention from the likes of The ProEmp Journal (October 2000) and Benefits & Compensation Solutions (November 2000). Laforet has 18 years' experience in the healthcare industry. Prior to joining Genesys, he co-founded Predictive Sciences, Inc. (PSI), an e-health organization delivering health and productivity information and data, where he served as COO. Previously, he was vice president of sales and marketing for Codman Research and director of sales, Western region, for the Medstat Group. This type of experience emphasizes the commitment Genesys has to providing a pure industry-specific solution for the healthcare industry.
- The year-ending November/December 2000 issue of Business & Health included mention of the joint venture between Aetna U.S. Healthcare and Genesys.
- In December 2000, Start and E-Com ran an extensive piece titled "Considering an ASP?". Earle Phillips, director of Genesys ASP Services, figured prominently in this article explaing how Genesys made the natural transition from software provider, to outsourcing provider, to a true ASP. Earle was quoted as saying "We've been in business for close to 20 years. We provide HR and payroll solutions. We've also sold in-house services and have provided outsourcing. Our traditional market is midsize companies and larger. Our payroll product has been used by service bureaus to run other service bureaus. We can handle complexity."
- APA's newsletter, epayXpress included mention of the Simplex/Genesys business alliance.
