  Tax Filing Service

Interview with Mark Bosco, Director of Tax Filing Services

e-Insight: Would you describe for us what is involved in managing payroll tax filing for clients?

Mark Bosco: As your payroll tax filing provider, Genesys will accept a data feed from your payroll system each time you run a payroll which provides us with all relevant payroll tax filing information. We then import that data into our tax filing system, determine the total tax liability associated with that payroll, and impound the total tax funds from your account into a Genesys account. When taxes become due, Genesys makes all payments and files all necessary returns to the taxing agencies in a timely manner. Depending on agency requirements, these payments and returns may be in paper or electronic format. We provide you with copies of quarterly and annual filings. We reconcile accounts on a daily basis and can provide you with a reconciliation of your individual accounts at any time, indicating the funds currently held by tax type.

e-Insight: What kind of services do you offer clients in this area?

Mark Bosco: Customers will receive personalized service from dedicated tax filing specialists knowledgeable in your account. If you are utilizing our payroll outsourcing services as well, our tax filing specialists and payroll support representatives work closely together (at the same location) coordinating payroll and tax issues.

We will research and respond to inquiries/notices you receive from tax filing agencies. We will prepare any amended returns or correspondence required in response to these inquiries/notices, keeping you informed and receiving your input throughout the process.

We also provide W-2 reconciliation and filing services, including W-2C, 1099 and 1042s filings.

Genesys supports the following payroll taxes for the US and its territories:

Federal:
º  Federal Income Tax
º  Federal Insurance Contributions (FICA)
º  Federal Unemployment Tax (FUTA)
º  943 Taxes
º  945 Taxes
º  1042s Taxes

State:
º  State Income Tax
º  State Unemployment Insurance (SUI)
º  State Disability Insurance (SDI)

Local:
º  Local Income Tax
º  School District Tax
º  Occupational Privilege Tax (OPT)

Miscellaneous:
º  Special Assessment Taxes

e-Insight: Are there additional financial services that you offer in conjunction with payroll tax filing?

Mark Bosco: Genesys also provides Cash Management Services for payroll customers, whereby your payroll checks and direct deposit transactions will be drawn on a Genesys account, eliminating the need for you to prepare cumbersome bank reconciliations and deal with abandoned property/escheatment issues.

e-Insight: Can you tell us what the benefits are of outsourcing payroll tax filing versus managing it in house?

Mark Bosco: We are experts in tax filing who are accustomed to working with various federal, state and local agencies on a number of levels. Our tax system is state of the art and is regularly updated so you can count on accurate and timely tax filings. You will benefit from our operational efficiencies and our tax filing specialists will be experts in your individual account. This will provide for outstanding customer service that will be evident immediately as you experience a relatively seamless transition to our service.

e-Insight: Have you had any interesting or noteworthy experiences since rolling out this service?

Mark Bosco: You will find that we take tax filing seriously. We consider you our partner and look beyond the routine of accepting your data and filing taxes. We take an intuitive approach to servicing your account. For example, one of our clients came to us from another service. We were provided with setup information for their various FEINs and jurisdictions. We noted that one of the SUI accounts had a rate that seemed high. We made inquiries of the agency and determined that the client may be able to have this rate retroactively reduced. We helped the client draft an effective letter to the agency, resulting in a significant reimbursement related to a prior tax period. This is just one example of how Genesys will apply our tax expertise and treat your tax account as if it were our own internal account.

e-Insight: If you could sum up in one or two words what differentiates the Genesys financial services, what would they be?

You will see that Genesys is expert in tax filings and customer service.

  Cash Management Services

Genesys Cash Management Services is an option that frees Genesys payroll clients from the tedious tasks of bank reconciliations and other administrative functions associated with direct deposit, live payroll checks, and vendor payments, since all payments are drawn on a Genesys (or Genesys TPA) account. Cash management services as they pertain to direct deposits, live payroll checks, and vendor payments, are outlined below.

Direct Deposit

When a client runs their payroll, the Genesys cash management group receives a report of net direct deposit totals.

The direct deposit file containing all of the employee payment records is sent from Genesys to our Bank. On payday, the Genesys account is debited and all employees are credited at their various banks/accounts.

Any reversals or adjustments that the client requires are phoned in to a Genesys account manager. Genesys then notifies the Bank of the requested transaction. Both Genesys and the Bank track these transactions through to completion.

Any rejected items or notifications of change are delivered to Genesys from the Bank. Genesys then works with the client to ensure resolution of items. The Bank provides the ongoing proof process of settlement items and works with Genesys to ensure resolution of all outstanding items.

Live Payroll Checks

When a client runs their payroll, the cash management group receives a report of live payroll check totals.

Checks are drawn on an IPS (TPA associated with the Bank) account. Genesys sends a check file to IPS and transfers funds from our Bank account to IPS to cover the checks. IPS performs all bank reconciliations and deals with abandoned property/escheatment requirements.

Any voids/stop payments that the client requires are phoned in to a Genesys account manager. Genesys then notifies IPS of the requested transaction and confirms the void/stop payment.

Vendor Payments

Genesys also processes garnishment payments for clients. These are live checks and are handled in the same manner as live payroll checks.

Cash management services can be applied to any type of vendor payments that the client desires.

For additional information on Cash Management Services, please contact Chris Kelley by phone (978-685-5400, x3054) or by email (ckelley@genesysHCM.com).

  Client Product Service Center

The Genesys Product Service Center was designed to streamline the way you update and maintain your Genesys system. For V5.5, rather than installing many updates at the same time, you now may choose the ones that meet your specific and current needs. To choose an update, you may browse a list of topics, or you may run a free-text search. After you have selected an item you want, contact your Account Manager, who will place it in your folder on the Customer web site.

You can reach the Product Service Center by selecting Customer Connection on the Genesys web site www.genesysHCM.com or directly from this link http://customer.genesysHCM.com/web_pages/prodservicecenter.asp. From the Customer Connection Welcome page, select Product Service Center, which provides links to your Release Files (Download Files), Release Documentation, and a new area for V5.5 enhancements and resolutions in 2003.

Please note the following --

  1. The Product Service Center includes V5.5 problem resolutions and enhancements for 2003. For items earlier than 2003, refer to the following Functional and Technical Change (FTC) releases -- 2002-13 (November 15, 2002), 2002-10 (September 6, 2002), and 2001-09 (August 14, 2001).

  2. The Product Service Center will be updated continually with V5.5 problem resolutions, as they are reported. Future product enhancements will only be available in V6.1. All current V5.5 enhancements and problem resolutions are included automatically in V6.1.

  3. Installation instructions for all items are included in the Product Service Center.

  4. Legislative releases for V5.5 will continue to be released automatically. You will receive an e-mail notification when the releases become available. Links to the legislative releases will also be located on the Product Service Center page.

We are excited about the Product Service Center and will continue to add to the site, not only V5.5 problem resolutions, but, in the near future, V6.1 problem resolutions and enhancements and information about upcoming product releases. We hope you will find this site of value and will visit it often.

  New PeopleComeFirst Learning Clients

We are pleased to welcome aboard two new clients in the Learning Management arena: Farm Credit Services of America and Ticketmaster.

Farm Credit Services of America

Farm Credit Services of America (FCSA), based in Omaha, Nebraska, is dedicated to serving the agricultural credit and financial needs of farmers and ranchers in Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming.

FCSA is a part of the Farm Credit System, a nationwide agricultural network providing credit and affiliated services to farm and ranch operators across the United States. Overall, the Farm Credit System supplies the nation's agricultural industry with nearly one-third of its credit needs.

FCSA is part of the 85-year old Farm Credit System, a $85 billion-plus nationwide network of lending institutions, chartered in 1917.

FCSA is owned by its 50,000 stockholders/ customers and is governed by a twenty-three member Board of Directors. The customer-owners of the Association elect twenty-two directors, and one director is appointed by the Board. The Association operates on a cooperative basis. All of our customers own stock in the Association.

Unlike commercial banks, Farm Credit institutions do not take deposits. Instead, money is raised by selling system-wide bonds on Wall Street. The proceeds are then channeled through Farm Credit banks and associations to agricultural producers and cooperatives. Because of the market acceptance and attractiveness of Farm Credit securities and the volume of funds raised, Farm Credit Services of America is able to offer competitive interest rates and unlimited amounts of capital to the agricultural sector.

Farm Credit Services of America has a network of 43 retail offices within Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming. Its corporate headquarters is located in Omaha, Nebraska, at 5015 South 118th Street, 68137. For more information, visit http://www.fcsamerica.com/home/index.asp.
