19th Annual Genesys Conference to Welcome Veterans and Newcomers Alike ...
... for productive learning and networking!
The last issue of Genesys Insight listed a wealth of reasons not to miss the forthcoming Genesys HRMS Conference in Scottsdale, Arizona. The 1999 Conference the 19th annual one for Genesys will come together under the unifying theme "Strategies and Solutions for the Next Century." And, though it may be the first Genesys conference for some Insight readers, for others it will be a return to one of their most valuable annual experiences.
Gary Small of American Management Systems, Inc., has been a customer since Genesys was founded, and has attended nearly every previous Genesys conference. This year will be no different; Gary will be in Scottsdale, getting everything he can out of all the Conference experiences, and leading the always-popular Payroll Focus Group session. "Even with newsletters, on-line support, and the Internet," says Gary, "nothing compares to the first-hand contact you get at the Conference. Its always both well-run and extremely worthwhile. I think newcomers to Genesys should take advantage of as many Conference activities as possible; they have so much to offer. A new customer can make very good use of these unique opportunities to network with people from Genesys and with other, more experienced Genesys users."
As Gary also suggests, people headed for Conference might consider a careful advance review of the agenda, to pick sessions and other activities that match best with their needs. In so doing, dont neglect whats potentially one of the most useful experiences, particularly for relative Genesys novices: the slate of Pre-Conference Workshops which Conference attendees can register for. Offered on Sunday, September 26, these include a choice of: a general Introduction to Genesys; a GenTools "Tips and Techniques" session; a seminar on Migrating from Mainframe to NT; or the half-day Outsourcing Year-End Training session. These Sunday offerings constitute a fine opportunity to get some quick training or to brush up on these areas of interest. Registration information for Pre-Conference Workshops is included with the Conference registration form.
As Genesys user organizations are winding down Y2K projects, in preparation for the first days and weeks of 2000, the Conference will help them get ready to act on later technological and business opportunities. Significant bottom-line payoffs in 2000 can come from migrating to new operating platforms; from implementing web-based, telephonic, or other new interface technologies; and from adding or improving employee self-service facilities. For all of these and other opportunities, the Conference will offer help in the form of group sessions for training, idea exchange, and problem resolution. Last but not least, Conference-goers will get to reward their hard work and, at the same time, productively network with peers by enjoying a good time together at the planned social activities and award presentations.
Let Genesys help you prepare for 2000 and beyond: see you at the 1999 Conference in Arizona!

Introducing: Genesys WEBWorks HealthCare HRMS
This quarter, Genesys introduces the new WEBWorks HealthCare HRMS product. WEBWorks HCHRMS offers the complete functionality of the existing HealthCare HRMS package, in a Genesys WEBWorks edition which adds web-browser integration and access to its features. WEBWorks HCHRMS covers the entire range of healthcare payroll, human resources, and position control functions. Combining this breadth of application function with the accessibility, ease of use, and robust security of WEBWorks brings a new degree of HR/payroll power to healthcare user organizations.
According to Miles Patten, National Director of HealthCare Systems for Genesys, WEBWorks will bring valuable benefits to the many healthcare operations that are banding together under broader managed-care organizations. "Healthcare facilities all over the continent are expanding, geographically and otherwise, beyond the hospital setting as well as beyond their traditional areas," says Miles. "One of the greatest things about WEBWorks is that its web-based design will let users securely enhance their HR-related and self-service communications via the Internet, without worrying about the IT infrastructure. Access via WEBWorks to HRMS and payroll functions via the web will help healthcare organizations empower their overall workforces employees and managers as well as HR personnel."
Additional information on WEBWorks HealthCare HRMS is available from any Genesys representative or from solutions@genesysHCM.com.
- In the June 4, 1999, issue of Human Resource Executive , an article on the "componentization" of human resource applications quoted Steve Munini of Genesys on the varying definitions of software components. The article prominently mentions the Genesys approach of developing a "best of the best" generation of componentized software technology allowing integrated application products or outsourced services to be assembled out of software "written by different sources, using different languages on different operating systems across different networks, to communicate."
- A feature story by Genesys Sr. Vice President Ruth Ladner appeared in the July/August issue of PayTech, the bimonthly magazine of the American Payroll Association. Titled "Payroll and HR Outsourcing No Pain, All Gain," Ruths article made a strong case for the value of outsourcing such processes as payroll/HR administration to freeing organizations to pursue their core business objectives. It also describes how outsourcing lets customers leverage the Internet and other powerful technologies to reap the business benefits of self-service functionality without the burdens of doing their own system maintenance. Copies of this article are available from Genesys representatives.
- Genesys received prominent attention in the June 1999 edition of OMG in Motion, the member newsletter published by the Object Management Group (OMG) whose Human Resource Working Group was recently co-founded by Genesys (see the Q2 edition of Insight). Articles on the front and back pages spotlight Genesys and its work as part of the new HR Working Group towards co-developing standards for HRIS application-level interoperability. (A PDF version of this OMG in Motion edition is available on-line.)
- As part of its efforts toward more effective communication of the value of its business solutions, Genesys has named a new public relations firm. Wheeler PR and Marketing, of Andover, Massachusetts, now handles a variety of Genesys public-relations affairs, including industry press and analyst contacts and corporate image development. Principal Frances Y. J. Wheeler has nineteen years of experience in high-tech PR, marketing, and writing.
