20th Annual Genesys HRMS Conference -
Smooth Sailing in San DiegoThe 20th Annual Genesys HRMS Conference was held at the Paradise Point Resort in San Diego on September 10 through 13, 2000. By all accounts, the Conference was a success. Whether you were a first time attendee or a conference veteran, the opportunities to learn and share were plentiful.
Here are some highlights that were of particular interest to attendees:
- Michael Averys keynote address on leading change helped the audience understand how we as individuals approach change in both our professional and personal lives. Also importantly, Michael shared with us how to assess the change styles of others. When working together, it is helpful for us all to understand the change styles of other team members to better help the team achieve momentum to move forward.
- PeopleComeFirst was introduced to Genesys customers. This entirely new, component-based infrastructure will supply the platform for a number of sophisticated HR capabilities, the first of which will address the administration of competency-based training and development. (see related article)
- Genesys presented the largest showcase room ever with 10,000 square feet of new technologies from both Genesys and a number of Genesys business partners. Partners included Aetna U.S. Healthcare, CTS, ehlke.com, eLabor.com (Conference Lead Sponsor), PSI Group and Simplex.
- Many thought-provoking and informative sessions were provided by customers for fellow customers including presentations by: Alan Costner of Fifth Third Bank, Ginny Eglof and Bill Dunn of Christiana Care, Kris Green of Childrens Hospital, Al Skalisky of PrimeSource Corporation, Tom Tripp of Delta Dental, John Taht of Georgetown University, Kathryn Mindlin of Hillsborough County, Bob Hoey of Milwaukee County, Bryan Hunter of Tenet HealthSystem, Chrissy Vandervort of Perot Systems, and Richard Moore of Lands End.
Results of the overall conference survey revealed that the number one technology that is going to have the greatest impact on the organization is the Internet. This was further demonstrated by the number of customers expressing interest in WEBServe for employee and manager self-service and WEBWorks for web-based access to their Genesys products and services. If you have interest in learning more about either of these offerings, contact your Genesys sales representative or send an e-mail message to solutions@genesysHCM.com.
In closing, 92% of those completing the survey ranked the overall conference as very good or excellent. If you were not able to join us, we strongly encourage you to plan to attend next year.
The Genesys team is already busy planning for Conference 2001. We hope you will join us at the Westin Riverwalk Hotel in San Antonio, Texas, September 16 through 19, 2001. Genesys is already seeking customer presenters. Remember that presenters receive a complimentary conference registration. If you have a topic you would like to propose, please submit it via e-mail to lbreen@genesysHCM.com.
You can learn more about the conference and register online by visiting our web sites events page at http://www.genesysHCM.com/events.html.
Genesys is proud to announce PeopleComeFirst. As youre aware, Genesys is committed to utilizing and bringing forth the latest in high-tech solutions, including industry standard tools, component-based development, and web-native architecture. These same methods and philosophy were used to develop PeopleComeFirst, the first of its kind competency-based framework for human resource tools and services.
In past issues of Insight, youve read about the step-by-step developments of PeopleComeFirst, some of you saw the Training and Development module demonstrated at the recent conference - and availability is just around the corner.
Competency-based Training and Development is the first component scheduled for availability in the first quarter of 2001. PeopleComeFirst is currently seeking interested parties who wish to participate in the beta-test program that will be kicking off very soon.
PeopleComeFirst is designed to be delivered in two ways. First, it will be available through Application Service Provider arrangement, which means that clients will access the Web-based copy of the application with a secure area for the clients own private data. Second, the PeopleComeFirst applications will be available for purchase as traditional software solutions installed locally at the clients site.
Further information about PeopleComeFirst is available on the Web site or by contacting Steve Munini, either via phone (978-865-5400, extension 3002) or e-mail (smunini@genesysHCM.com).

This issued included a detailed point/counterpoint article on outsourcing, where Al presented his pro outsourcing views. On another note, Al was recently selected as an award nominee for the year 2001 Outsourcing Centers Editors Choice Awards. Congratulations Al! Additional congratulations are in order for Al, as he was selected by Genesys as one of this years Excellence Award winners.
- Mass High Techs September issue covered the announcement of Joe Laforets appointment to National Director of Healthcare for Genesys. As a software company headquartered in Methuen, Massachusetts, Genesys is extremely pleased to receive recognition in Mass High Tech, the publication that covers the ins and outs of the software industry in Massachusetts. In addition, this announcement of Joes appointment also ran on the national Business Wire.
- E-Signatures: Not a fancy script at the end of an e-mail anymore
On June 30, 2000, President Clinton signed The Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act into law. With the stroke of a pen, he indicated that, beginning October 1, 2000, electronic signatures would be as binding as traditional hand-written signatures.
Applauded by many as a major breakthrough, others advise using caution. Though the majority of sites accepting electronic signatures are reputable, it only takes one bad experience to spoil things. This technology is new. Remember, not everyone embraced CD music and DVD movies when they first became available. Err on the side of caution. Ensure you know whom youre dealing with before submitting your electronic signature.
